Visiting Elke and Oscar in Alicante! (Or "Oh la mer!")

Posted by Beth on 9:50 AM in , ,
Immediately after getting back from the road trip to Blackpool and Liverpool, we headed off the following morning to Alicante, Spain to visit our friends Elke and Oscar! What a contrast to the cold, windy Northwest of England! It was clear and sunny and pretty warm! Ahhhhh... now THIS is summer!!

Brand new (erected in honor of our visit! haha!) entry sign
to the town where they live.

View to the sea!!! I see the sea! Do you see the sea?

The first evening, we'd gone for a walk with Oscar's parents' dogs. They live right around the corner (literally) from Elke and Oscar. When we came back to return the dogs, we were invited in and immediately fed and watered for several hours. Lots of good food, wine and conversation!

We arrived the week of the Festival of San Juan. They were setting up the paper mache foguetes (I think) in preparation for the bonfires the next night.

There were also random groups of musicians and dancers roaming the streets.
It was very hot so I can only imagine they were melting in those outfits!

The beach was packed at midnight with people barbecuing and generally just partying! There were people of all ages out- even small children. It was crazy!

To try and take advantage of the short visit, we headed to the beach the morning of our departure for a couple of hours.
